Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's the middle of the week, time for a Wednesday Hodgepodge post, courtesy of Joyce at From This Side of the Pond.  We've got some interesting pre-Olympic questions again this week.  Hope you join in!

1. The Summer Olympics officially begin this Friday...will you be watching? If you could see just one event in person which one would you pick?
You know, I can't say for sure if I'll remember to watch the Olympics.  That doesn't sound very enthusiastic, I know, but the truth is I rarely watch network television anymore.  There just isn't anything good on TV.  If I could watch one event in person, it would most likely be gymnastics.  Though to be perfectly honest, I don't know anyone that is competing.  Not even from the US team.  I should be ashamed.

2. Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?
For me, lazy days are unproductive days.  I always feel like I should get something done everyday, even if it's just a small dent in my to-do list.  If nothing gets done I get upset with myself.

3. July 25 is 'officially' Threading the Needle day...can you sew? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being not at all and 10 being Betsy Ross-like, how would you rate your skill with a needle and thread?
I'd probably give myself a 4.  I can do the basics, hemming and sewing on a button, fixing a seam, that sort of thing.  My mom did teach us how to sew and crochet, but I was never skilled at it.  I made clothes for my sister's dolls and even those ended up looking "homemade" (but not in a good way).  My youngest sister is the gifted one when it comes to sewing.  She would be up there in the 8-10 range.

4. Threading the Needle can also mean to walk a fine line between two things or issues (think awkward social situation). When was the last time you had to 'thread the needle', figuratively speaking?
During a Sunday school class, the leader decided to dedicate a couple of Sundays to Calvinism vs. Arminianism.  I know there are some people who are strongly one or the other.  I can see good points on both sides, but I told everyone I believe what the Bible teaches and not men's doctrines.  It was uncomfortable to me to have folks trying to pin me into one category or the other.  I was glad when that class was over.

5. Kidney, pinto, black, or navy-your favorite bean?
I would have to go with pinto beans, though I like most beans.  Except kidney beans.  My mom made them so often I can't stand them anymore.

6. Have you ever hosted a garage sale? Was it more success or bust?
I've never hosted a garage sale, nor have I shopped at one.  Not that I'm against garage sales.  I wanted to have one last year but hubby was totally against it.  I don't know if it would have been successful, though.  We live in a cul-de-sac, with very little traffic.  I'd have to put up a lot of signs to get anyone near us.  As for attending garage sales, I never have cash on hand, so I don't stop for fear I'll like something and I won't have any money on me to buy it :P.

7. What makes you roll your eyes?
Folks who have an answer for everything, even if it doesn't make sense.  They must always have the last word and consider themselves authorities on every subject under the sun.  Gimme a break.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I called my local hair salon yesterday to make an appointment with a girl who's cut my hair the last few times and has done a pretty good job of it.  I found out she's not there anymore, so I went ahead and made an appointment anyway, with another girl whom I don't know.  Was that the smart thing to do?  I have the attitude of "it's just hair, it'll grow back," but is that how I really feel?  Now I'm not so sure.

Haha! I know people like that who just NEED to get in the last word no matter how stupid they sound (and I might be one... =/)

I followed the woman who does me hair to her new salon. It wasn't any farther away and I liked the way she cut my hair. But, it's a sticky situation sometimes. If the girl who did your hair before didn't let you know she was going to a new salon then it's really her lost.

Maria: My hairdresser moved out of the area. She now lives about 45 minutes away. Even if she had told me, I wouldn't go that far. Thankfully the girl that did my hair did a good job, and my hair looks really nice!
