Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's the middle of the week, a rough week for me, so I'll take some time out for a little Wednesday Hodgepodge, courtesy of Joyce, From This Side of the Pond.


1.  In what ways do you indulge yourself?

I have different ways of indulgence, depending on the budget.  I might splurge and get my hair done, or have a couple of Hershey's kisses if I'm trying not to spend.

2.  Have you ever taken a cooking class?  Any interest?  What type of class would you most like to try?

I've never taken a cooking class (unless you include Mom's kitchen, in which case I've taken dozens of them).  I think if I ever took a class it would be a baking class so I can learn to decorate those fancy cakes.

3. What does it mean to be a good citizen?

For me, it means thinking of others more than I think of myself.  Instead of looking for "how to get my way", a good citizen thinks in terms of the community and of what is best for everyone.  In doing so, a good citizen accomplishes more and brings harmony.

4.  'Tis the season of the political advert...do these ads influence your vote?

Not in the way they intend.  I hate negative campaigns that seek votes by trashing their opponents.  I'd much rather vote for the person who tells me what they've accomplished and what they intend to do without so much as a mention of the other person on persons running.  Just because a candidate points out what's wrong with the other party doesn't mean they are a better choice.

5.  What's something you see today that makes you wish you were a kid again?

Carefree living.  Hearing my son's aspirations for the future without reality crashing those dreams.  The approaching of the holidays and that festive feel of innocence.

6.  What's your least favorite cliche?

"Misery loves company."  I prefer to keep my misery to myself, and would like it very much if others did the same.

7.  What percentage of your Christmas shopping has been completed?  How does that make you feel?

Hmm, let's see.  I've got one present for my daughter, a couple for my oldest son, and about 5 for my youngest.  My older kids have asked for a couple of big ticket items that, hopefully, I'll be able to get this month.  I think I'm doing okay, with it being only October.  It's when Thanksgiving draws near that I start to panic if I don't have most or all of my shopping done.

My son has the flu.  Poor little guy.  He's had all the symptoms since Monday night, and now he's lying in bed with a wet rag on his forehead to help ease his headache.  I hope he feels better soon.  I don't like to see my babies suffer.
