The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, May 28, 2013...

Outside my window...the clouds seem to indicate more rain is on the way.  It didn't rain nearly as much as the weatherman had originally said it would, but the day isn't over yet.

I am thinking...my son may not have field day this year.  It looks like we'll be getting rain daily.

I am thankful...for the rain, for the sunshine, for how pretty my flowers look thanks to both.

I am going...to take a shower soon.

I am wearing...a black top, black and white skirt, and black sandals.  With temps in the 80's it's necessary to dress light.

I am noticing...our dog Molly is eating less lately.  She still has lots of energy so I don't think she's sick.

In the kitchen...we had Cuban style steak sandwiches.  They were sooo good!

I am reading...I started reading Composing Amelia by Alison Strobel, but I haven't picked it up in days.  I need to make time to read.

I am hoping...to find plenty of fun and cheap things to do this summer with my son.

I am looking forward to...the school year ending.  Last day of school is June 7.

I am hearing...the television rambling and my son's occasional questions.

Around the house...I got plenty done yesterday and Saturday so I was able to take it easy today.  Good thing - rainy cloudy days make me feel lazy ;-)

A favorite quote of the day..."The problem with close-minded people is that their mouth is always open." - Unknown

One of my favorite things...not having to go anywhere on rainy days.

A few plans for the rest of the week...we had Awana awards last night so I may just go to our youth group this week.  They have study time along with massages and free manicures.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, May 8, 2013...

Outside my window...the sun has set, and another day is almost done.

I am thinking...about the future.  It's in God's hands, but I find myself wondering what He's gonna do next.

I am thankful...for my children and the relationship they have with each other.

I am going...to sleep soon.  It's getting late.

I am wearing...my pj's.

I am noticing...how much harder it is to bring my weight down now that I'm getting older.  I don't like that.

In the kitchen...I kept it simple:  breakfast for lunch, and pasta with shrimp for dinner.  I spent the morning washing cars so I was tired.

I am reading...my Bible and a couple of devotions.  I haven't picked up a book in awhile.

I am hoping...I can still get tickets to the Mother/Daughter luncheon for this Saturday.  I hadn't bought the tickets before because I didn't know if my daughter would have to work.  She does, but she doesn't have to go in till 4pm and the luncheon ends at 3.

I am looking forward to...Mother's Day and a little pampering ;-)

I am hearing...the television.  Hoarding: Buried Alive is on.

Around the house...the kitchen faucet is not working.  It leaks under the sink, and now it won't shut off properly unless I press down hard on it.  I'll have to get it replaced.

A favorite quote of the day..."The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver." - Psalm 119:72.

One of my favorite things...friendships with special women who love the Lord.

A few plans for the rest of the week...a trip to Home Depot to get a new faucet; Mother/Daughter luncheon on Saturday.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, May 2, 2013...

Outside my window...the sun is trying to peek out from behind the clouds.  If the weather forecast is right, the clouds will win and we'll be getting more rain.

I am thinking...today is the National Day of Prayer.  What are you praying for?

I am thankful...that our God is such a Mighty and Awesome God, He can hear each and every prayer.

I am going...to have fun with my son today.  It's Take Your Child To Work Day, and I work right here at home.

I am wearing...my jammies.  That will change shortly.

I am noticing...how early our rainy season started this year.  It usually starts mid-May, but this year we started getting thunderstorms in April.  Wonder what that'll mean for the summer.

In the kitchen...I will be cooking with my son E.  We'll make pancakes for breakfast, then his favorite meal, white rice with ground beef.  Simple yet comforting.

I am reading...my Bible and nothing else.  I've been sewing lately and haven't picked up a book in days.

I am hoping...this on again off again headache will just go off.  My sinuses have been affected by the rain and it causes me to feel headachy.

I am looking forward to...spending this day showing my son how busy Mom's day gets.

I am hearing...our dog Molly settling back down.  She must not be feeling herself today.  She hasn't touched her breakfast.

Around the house...there's laundry to be done, and my bedroom could use a good dusting.

A favorite quote of the day..."If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14

One of my favorite things...spending time in the kitchen making yummy goodies.

A few plans for the rest of the week...other than church, nothing much.  My daughter is a bridesmaid in a wedding on Saturday, but it's a small affair and she's the only one invited.  With all the rain I can't barbecue so we'll be staying indoors most of the time.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, April 9, 2013...

Outside my window...the clouds are covering up the sunshine, and a breeze has picked up.  Wonder if that means more rain?

I am thinking...about the many needs of my friends, and how I need to write them down so I can pray for them.

I am thankful for...the fact that I live in Florida.  I love it here.

I am going...to program the television so I don't forget to watch the Duggar's tonight.  I hate when that happens!  I often don't even have the TV on which only complicates matters.

I am wearing...a black and white summer dress with a red camisole underneath, and black sandals.  It's 81 degrees out so the lighter the better.

I am noticing...the temps in New York where my family lives are almost the same as our temps here.  That doesn't happen often in April!

In the kitchen...I made smothered pork chops - I made Tyler Florence's recipe found here - with buttered noodles and a salad.  Those chops are so delicious!

I am reading...Land of My Heart.  I just started it last night.  Got one chapter read before I started dozing off.  Not that the book is boring; I always doze off when I read at night.  My son E and I are also reading a chapter of Proverbs and of Psalms every night.

I am hoping...to get the oil changed on my car this week, before the coupon I got from Pep Boys expires.

I am looking forward to...Christ's return.  Are you?

I am hearing...my daughter singing and playing her guitar.

Around the house...I haven't done much because I've had errands to run every morning and helping my son E with his homework every afternoon.  I hope to get some stuff done tomorrow or Thursday.

A favorite quote of the day..."My great concern is not whether God is on our side; my great concern is to be on God's side." - Abraham Lincoln

One of my favorite things...getting a good deal on anything.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Awana tomorrow night, and helping my son prepare for exams next week.  It's FCAT time again (ugh!).

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, April 2, 2013...

Outside my window...the sun has set and there is pitch darkness.

I am thinking...it's gonna be another hot summer.  It was a real scorcher today.

I am thankful...I was able to get two cars washed today.  My oldest son had to go to work early so I didn't get to his car, but my daughter's and mine are spotless.

I am going...to watch The Duggars in a little while.

I am wearing...a blue polka dotted top, jean bermuda shorts and flip-flops.  It was in the low 80's today so this was most appropriate wear.

I am noticing...the nice color the neighbors put on their house.  I want to paint the outside of our house, too.  It hasn't been painted in 7 years.  It needs it.

In the kitchen...we had ham steaks, plantains and salad.  I kept it simple because my daughter and I were out bridal shower shopping this morning.

I am reading...one chapter of Proverbs a day with my son.  I finally finished Ruby so it's time to find a new book.

I am hoping...I can get caught up in the house.

I am looking forward to...a good night's sleep.

I am hearing...my son singing in the shower.  "I've been working on the railroad, all the live long day."  He's such a character.

Around the house...the floors need cleaning.

A favorite quote of the day...“Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God's will.” ― Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

One of my favorite things...seeing what the Duggar's are up to.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Awana starts up again tomorrow after a week off.  Church on Sunday.  Nothing else planned.  Yet.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, March 26, 2013...

Outside my window...it's COLD!  Yesterday it was in the low 80's.  This morning it's in the upper 50's.  What's going on here?!  It's hard to figure out what the weather will be from one day to the next.

I am thinking...of things to do this week so my son won't complain of boredom.

I am thankful for...my income tax refund!  It finally got entered into my account this morning.  It only took 6 weeks :P.  I guess that's not too bad, considering it's the government.  :/

I am going...to the church office this morning to do some volunteer work.

I am wearing...my pj's.  Okay, so I haven't changed yet.  I'll get into proper attire in a moment.

I am noticing...the weather alerts every morning.  We've had so little rain the last few months that now we're on brush fire alert.

In the kitchen...ribs in the oven, baked beans, and garlic bread.  I was gonna make the ribs on the grill, but I won't be here to tend to them.  It's easier to put them in the oven on low and let the oven do all the work.

I am reading...yeah, still on Ruby.  I'm getting closer to the end though.

I am hoping...this week is one of reflection and gratitude to our Lord.

I am looking forward to...Good Friday service, Saturday service, and Easter Sunday.

I am hearing...my daughter getting ready to have breakfast with some friends, and my youngest son getting up.

Around the house...I've gotten so much done this week even I'm amazed.  I got the grass cut yesterday (yay!).  The only thing left is the master bathroom which keeps getting put to the bottom of the list.

A favorite quote of the day..."Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion - it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ." - Billy Graham.

One of my favorite things...helping the local church and community.

A few plans for the rest of the week...tomorrow is my oldest son's 26th birthday, so I'm baking him a cream cheese pound cake from scratch.  Thursday will be a cleaning and catch up day.  Friday is church, Saturday church, Easter Sunday church again.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, March 19, 2013...

Outside my window...it's dark and humid.  We got some rain yesterday and today, which was much needed.

I am thinking...about the students at UCF after the scare they got yesterday.  You can read about it here.

I am thankful for...the greatest sacrifice in history.  This month we remember how God so loved the world that He gave His Only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

I am going...to watch the new episode of 19 Kids and Counting.

I am wearing...a pink t-shirt that says, "Got Jesus?" on it, jean shorts and flip-flops.

I am noticing...my eyesight isn't what it used to be, and that's pretty bad since I've been near-sighted most of my life.

In the kitchen...breakfast for dinner.  I made buttermilk pancakes from scratch.  Yum!

I am reading...Ruby again.  I have to finish this book once and for all.

I am hoping...my income tax return is done processing soon.  It's been over a month and they're not done yet.

I am looking forward to...spring break, which starts this Friday.  I'm sure my son is looking forward to it as well.

I am hearing...19 Kids and Counting, last week's episode.  The new episode will start in about a half hour.

Around the house...I need to vacuum again.  I can't miss a day of vacuuming.  The house gets full of dog hair.

A favorite quote of the day..."Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children." - Chuck Swindoll.

One of my favorite things...barbecuing anything.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Awana tomorrow, spring break starting on Friday, church on Sunday.

A peek into my day...my new barbecue, given to me by my sister and brother-in-law.

Now maybe the rain will stop and I can continue barbecuing!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, March 12, 2013...

Outside my window...it's pitch dark.  Now that the time has sprung forward, 7am looks like it's the middle of the night.

I am thinking...did I do something wrong on my income tax?  Is that why I haven't gotten my refund yet after almost 4 weeks?

I am thankful...to my God, that even without this refund we have money to pay bills and food in our pantry.

I am going...to take my son to school, then get my haircut.

I am wearing...my jammies.  I'm making breakfast for my youngest son and I, then I'll get dressed.

I am noticing...that our dog Molly hasn't adjusted to the time change.  She ignored her breakfast this morning.  Must be too early.

In the kitchen...smothered pork chops and buttered noodles.

I am reading...my Bible and nothing more.  I've got to get back to my book.

I am hoping...my income tax refund isn't being held because I messed up on my return.

I am looking forward to...the presentation at church this Saturday, The Story - The Musical.  It's the story of the Bible, which is the story of Jesus.  Perfect for this month of Easter.

I am hearing...my son getting ready for school while he watches Animaniacs.

Around the house...I got as much done yesterday as I could, but I need to clean the bathrooms.

A favorite quote of the day... “We may be statistics and numbers as far as the world’s computers are concerned, but we are precious individuals as far as our Shepherd is concerned. He knows his sheep personally.” - Warren Wiersbe.

One of my favorite things...getting my hair washed and scalped massaged by my hair stylist.

A few plans for the rest of the week...my haircut today, follow-up dentist visit for my daughter and Awana tomorrow, hopefully a trip to the mall to get my son some pants since he's growing by leaps and bounds, the play at church on Saturday.  Busy week for me, folks.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, March 5, 2013...

Outside my window...the sun has gone down on another hot South Florida day.  I can't believe how much the weather has changed from one day to the next.

I am thinking...of my daughter's impending surgery.  Her wisdom teeth are coming out tomorrow.

I am thankful for...the opportunity to volunteer at our old church.

I am going...to take a Benadryl because my allergies are acting up.

I am wearing...a yellow top, jeans, and socks.  It was 51 degrees when I went out this morning.  It got up to 75 by the afternoon.

I am noticing...that the temperatures have been going up and down like a roller coaster, and the next few days is going to be much of the same.

In the kitchen...I made spare ribs in the oven, with baked beans, corn on the cob and salad.  One of my daughter's favorite meals.  She won't be eating solids for the next few days, so I thought this would be nice for her.

I am reading...very little right now because I've been so busy.

I am hoping...the surgery goes well and recovery is quick and as painless as possible.

I am looking forward to...Easter week at the end of this month.

I am hearing...my son doing his homework and asking me an occasional question.

Around the house...I got a couple of loads of laundry done today and did a major cleaning of the kid's rooms yesterday, since I'll be busy with my daughter all day tomorrow.

A favorite quote of the day...“You must gain control over your money or the lack of it will forever control you.” ― Dave Ramsey

One of my favorite things...an evening at home with my kids nearby.

A few plans for the rest of the week...I'm taking my daughter to have her surgery tomorrow, and the rest of the week will depend on how she's feeling.  I get to be mommy and nurse to my little girl.  All prayers for her safety and rapid recovery are greatly appreciated.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, February 26, 2013...

Outside my window...it's very cloudy.  It's a warm, humid day, but the weekend promises to be cooler and drier.

I am thinking...of my sister's visit in December.  I don't like long waits.

I am thankful for...God's presence in my life.  We saw a video in our Sunday school class about the vastness of the universe and how very small we are.  It blows my mind that even though I am such a tiny speck in God's creation, He still hears and answers my prayers.

I am going...to pick up my son from school in a little while.

I am wearing...a multi-colored top, jean skirt and flip-flops.  It's 81 degrees in beautiful South Florida.

I am noticing...the mess my son left on our family room coffee table.

In the kitchen...I kept it real simple.  Tyson chicken strips, macaroni and cheese, and a salad.

I am reading...Ruby, still, but I'm over halfway done.

I am hoping...my daughter does well on Friday.  She's performing at her church's concert.

I am looking forward to...the Casting Crowns concert on Saturday.

I am hearing...the keyboard clicks.  My daughter is at the church office, my older son is napping and my youngest is at school.  Oh, and Molly is asleep too.  :)

Around the house...most of the cleaning got done yesterday.  I had a doctor's appointment this morning so I haven't done anything, except wash the breakfast dishes and fix my bed.

A favorite quote of the day...“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” ― Dave Ramsey.

One of my favorite things...listening to the wind blow through the palm fronds in our back yard.

Here's a picture thought I'm sharing...my daughter belting out a song at the carnival:

A few plans for the rest of the week...tomorrow is Grand Prix at Awana, and I'm sure the T & T gang is excited!  Then Saturday it's Casting Crowns, can't wait!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, February 21, 2013...

Outside my window...it feels more like late spring than mid winter.  There's a breeze, which is warm, but thankfully no humidity.

I am thinking...of how much fun this carnival is gonna be.  Our church is hosting a 4 day carnival with rides, music, food and fellowship.  And the best part?  My daughter will be performing on Saturday!

I am thankful for...God's faithfulness, and how He answers seemingly insignificant prayers.  I asked and He provided - free tickets to see Casting Crowns in Boca Raton on March 2!!!  Thank You Jesus!

I am going...to the first day of the carnival tonight.

I am wearing...a brown top, cream/brown/pink skirt, and flip-flops.  It's 80 degrees out right now.  Can you believe it?!

I am noticing...weird weather patterns.  It's 80 degrees out today.  It was in the 40's this weekend.

In the kitchen...kielbasa sausage, yellow rice with mixed vegetables, tater tots and salad.

I am reading...Ruby, by Lauraine Snelling.  It takes place in the Dakota Territory in the mid 1800's.  I love historical fiction.

I am hoping...the carnival is successful in reaching the community for Christ.

I am looking forward to...seeing my friends at the carnival and watching my son get on all the rides.  I might even join him.

I am hearing...nothing more than the whir of the ceiling fan and my fingers on the keyboard.

Around the house...I did the basics today.

A favorite quote of the day..."You know what you can do when you don't have any payments?  Anything you want." - Dave Ramsey.

One of my favorite things...snuggling in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and a good book.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Carnival, carnival, and more carnival.  My son wants to go everyday, and since I bought him the wristband for unlimited rides, it makes sense.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, February 12, 2013...

Outside my window...it's a perfect day for barbecuing.  I wish I had a grill.  It's beautiful out.

I am thinking...of our churchwide fast and what I will be giving up this coming month.  It has to be a real sacrifice.  Perhaps Facebook?

I am thankful for...all God has given me.  I'm also thankful for our new pastor, Pastor Matt.  He has given me much to think about.

I am going...to continue cleaning and shining up my floors.  I've done the kitchen, family room and dining room.  I'm working on the living room now.

I am wearing...a brown shirt, brown and teal skirt, and white flip-flops.  The rest of the East Coast may be struggling with snow and cold, but here in South Florida it's 81 degrees, sunny and breezy.

I am noticing...that my blog has been neglected.  Sorry about that!  I've been busy.

In the kitchen...I've got a rack of ribs in the oven that's making the entire house smell delicious!

I am reading...The Calling of Emily Evans.  I finished the Widow of Larkspur Inn and enjoyed it very much.

I am hoping...the cold front coming in this week will be a pleasant one.

I am looking forward to...eating those ribs.

I am hearing...peace and quiet.  Which is always nice.

Around the house...it's that time of year, when I polish the wood floors.  I got one of those Swiffer type mops, except it's by Rubbermaid and has the washable pad.  I'm loving it.

A favorite quote of the day..."It's all about the ribs."  - my hungry daughter.

One of my favorite things...barbecuing.  Which I can't do because I don't have a grill.  Yet.

A few plans for the rest of the week...it's Valentine's week, also known as Single's Awareness Day (or SAD).  I'll be baking red velvet cupcakes for the loves of my life.  It's a quiet week after that.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, February 5, 2013...

Outside my window...the day started off chilly but it has warmed up quite a bit.  Not overly hot, though.  It's a beautiful day.

I am thinking...about 1 Corinthians chapter 15, the chapter we're studying in our Sunday school class.

I am thankful for...our new pastor, Pastor Matt, whose sermon's are refreshing as much as convicting.

I am going...to rest a bit.  I'm not feeling my best.

I am wearing...a mint green top, blue skirt, and ankle socks.  It's 76 degrees out but it feels colder inside the house, and my feet are cold.

I am noticing...my greys peeking out.  Time for me to color my roots.

In the kitchen...easy chicken and stuffing in the crock pot.  I love my crock pot so much!

I am reading...the Widow of Larkspur Inn, but I got a good amount of reading this morning.  I think I'm on chapter 13 now.

I am hoping...I feel better for Awana tomorrow.

I am looking forward to...our church's carnival in a couple of weeks.

I am hearing...a House Hunter's marathon.  I'm lying in bed and there's nothing else good on TV.  Maybe I'll just get my book.

Around the house...anything that needs to get done can either get done by my kids or wait.  I'm taking the day off.

A favorite quote of the day..."Cleverness is cheap. It is faith that He praises." - George Macdonald.

One of my favorite things...spending time with my kids.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Awana tomorrow, church on Sunday, nothing else planned yet.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, January 30, 2013...

Outside my window...the weather has warmed up again but should cool down once more by tomorrow evening.

I am thinking...of some wonderful missionary families and the challenges they often face.

I am thankful...for a comfortable home to share with my loved ones.

I am going...to take my daughter to the oral surgeon this morning so we can find out the results of her CT scan.

I am wearing...a blue and green floral summer dress and gold sandals.  It's already 78 degrees out and going up into the low 80's.

I am noticing...how much television bores me rather than entertains me.  I put it on for a few of nights to watch Investigation Discovery and fell asleep almost immediately.

In the kitchen...I honestly don't know what I'm going to make today.  I might just get pizza.

I am reading...the Widow of Larkspur Inn.  Still.  I do try to get some reading in whenever I can but as of now I'm only on chapter 8.

I am hoping...the CT scan shows the nerve by my daughter's wisdom tooth isn't in the way and won't be damaged by removing the tooth.

I am looking forward to...temps in the 50's this weekend.

I am hearing...my daughter play Lego Pirates of the Caribbean on the Wii.

Around the house...there's laundry to be done.  I've got one load in the washer and another set to go next.

A favorite quote of the day..."Hath any wounded thee with injuries? Meet them with patience. Hasty words rankle the wound; soft language dresses it." - Francis Quarles

One of my favorite things...being able to wear flip-flops in winter.

A few plans for the rest of the week...oral surgeon in a couple of hours; Awana tonight; church on Sunday.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, January 22, 2013...

Outside my window...it's another gorgeous day, sunny, breezy, cool and not humid.

I am thinking...of my sciatic nerve which is bothering me again.

I am thankful for...pain killers when needed.

I am going...to get some pizza to feed the children's ministry band who are here practicing.

I am wearing...a mint green top, green skirt and grey flats.

I am noticing...a change in the weather.  Hopefully it will get colder so the bugs can disappear.

In the kitchen...we had sandwiches for lunch and we'll have pizza for dinner.

I am creating...nothing yet.

I am reading...The Widow of Larkspur Inn whenever I get the chance.

I am hoping...the treatment the doctor puts me on works.

I am looking forward to...a nice, relaxing evening.

I am hearing...the music coming from my garage.

Around the house...I haven't done much because I've been in and out of the house for the past couple of days, and because my sciatica is acting up again.

A favorite quote of the day..."Be not proud of race, face, place, or grace." - Samuel Rutherford

One of my favorite things...my heating pad, when my sciatica starts up.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Awana tomorrow night, and church on Sunday.  No other plans at this time.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, January 15, 2013...

Outside my window...there's a slight breeze, just enough to keep the windows open to let the fresh air in.  The sun is hiding but it peeks out of the clouds every so often.

I am thinking...how easy it is to get discouraged when I take my eyes off of Jesus.

I am thankful...this sinus/migraine headache is finally subsiding.  I was miserable yesterday.  The headache isn't gone but at least I can function.

I am going...to have lunch soon.

I am wearing...a yellow top, khaki green skirt, and grey flats.  It's 80 degrees out but thankfully the humidity is down and the breeze is keeping things cool.

I am noticing...how neat this iPhone is.  It certainly has lots more features than my Blackberry did.

In the kitchen...my family's all-time favorite:  ground beef with rice, mixed veggies, tater tots and salad.

I am creating...nothing right now.  I'd like to create some scrapbook pages this week.

I am reading...The Widow of Larkspur Inn.  I started it, but I haven't been able to do any reading (or posting for that matter) thanks to the headache.  Maybe I can get some reading in today.  By the way, last week I finished reading Paradise Valley, but I mistakenly listed the author as Beverly Lewis.  Don't know what I was thinking, but the author is really Dale Cramer.  Oops.

I am hoping...for some cooler weather soon.  The mosquito population won't go down if we don't get some lower temps.

I am looking forward to...having this headache completely gone so I can play chess with my son.

I am hearing...a video game in the living room.  It's my oldest son's way of winding down after a long night of sleeping ;)

Around the house...I need to get so much done, but with my sciatica acting up all weekend and this stupid headache yesterday I haven't been able to catch up.  I've got a couple of loads of laundry to fold and the master bathroom to get cleaned up.

A favorite quote of the day..."Some people would grumble at the accommodations in Heaven if they ever got there." - Author unknown.

One of my favorite things...cool breezes.

A few plans for the rest of the week...I'm taking my daughter to the oral surgeon tomorrow to see about getting her wisdom teeth taken out - she's not looking forward to it.  Just the regular stuff after that.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, January 9, 2013...

Outside my window...the breeze is blowing cool but the humidity makes it feel stifling.

I am thinking...about family.

I am thankful...that God opened my eyes to His truths and made me understand His Word.

I am going...to Awana tonight after a two week break.

I am wearing...a colorful top, jean skirt and white flip-flops.  It's 80 degrees and windy out.

I am noticing...a little coolness in the air.  I would love for it to cool off so the mosquitoes would disappear.

In the kitchen...I kept it simple today:  burgers and fries.

I am creating...a new look for the living room.  Actually, it's pretty much done.  I've just got to download the pictures.

I am reading...Paradise Valley, by Beverly Lewis.  It's an Amish story.

I am hoping...my daughter gets her wisdom teeth taken out soon.  One of them is impacted, so she needs to see an oral surgeon.  She has an appointment for next Wednesday.

I am looking forward to...seeing our Awana kids.  I've missed the girls!

I am hearing...my son play a video game before he leaves for work.

Around the house...I did a good cleaning in the kitchen, family room and dining room.  I also did a couple of loads of laundry.  Tomorrow I'll tackle the living room and bathrooms.

A favorite quote of the day..."To a friend's house, the road is never long." - Author unknown.

One of my favorite things...spending a nice quiet evening at home with a good book :)

A few plans for the rest of the week...Family Fun night at our church this Saturday!  It's an outdoor event, with lawn chairs so we can watch a movie, plenty of food and fellowship.  We've enjoyed these so much in the past.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, January 1, 2013...

Outside my window...the skies are overcast, and there's very little breeze.  Our wacky weather continues as we hope to get rain today.

I am thinking...of all the good things the Lord has blessed me with.  He is truly good, all of the time.

I am thankful...the whole Mayan end of the world thing is over.  Jesus said no one knows the day or time except the Father.  People find this impossible to believe, but they'll believe the Mayans.  ???

I am going...to continue putting away Christmas decorations.  I started yesterday and got quite a bit accomplished, but there's tons more to do.  This is the saddest part of the Christmas season for me.  I love having my decorations out, and I hate having to put them away.

I am wearing...a black top, black and white skirt, and flip-flops.  It's 74 degrees out (can you believe it?) and is expected to get up to 77.

I am noticing...the sun, now trying to break through the clouds.  Go for it, sun!

In the kitchen...I'm making bourbon chicken, without the bourbon.   But with plenty of chicken.

I am creating...nothing right now.  I haven't had much time to create.

I am reading...my devotions, and Unglued when I have the chance.

I am hoping...my daughter enjoys her new job.  She starts working at Old Navy this month.  Due to safety and conscience issues she had to stop working at the orphanage, but God quickly provided and we're very thankful for that.

I am looking forward to...switching out the 2012 calendar and putting up the 2013 one.

I am hearing...my oldest son as he gets up, the coffee pot brewing, a few birds outside my window.

Around the house...lots of packing up of decorations to be done.  I'm just thankful it isn't all of my Christmas decor.  It used to take me a full 3 days to set up and break down all that stuff, even with my daughter helping me.  It should go faster now.

A favorite quote of the day..."Keep us little and unknown, prized and loved by God alone." - Charles Wesley.

One of my favorite things...redecorating.  I have a few changes in mind for our home :)

A few plans for the rest of the week...I need to make a doctor's appointment to get some stuff checked out, and a dentist appointment for my daughter who needs to have those wisdom teeth checked out and possibly removed.  She's looking forward to it - not!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, December 26, 2012...

Outside my window...we are expecting a warm day followed by a drop in temperatures.  We've gone from 80's to 40's to 70's to 50's and back up again.  It's been hard to dress for.

I am thinking...of the wonderful blessed day we had yesterday with friends and fellowship and food and gifts and joy and love.

I am thankful for...God, who left His heavenly throne to be born as a baby in a barn and laid in a feeding trough, so that I could one day accept His gift of salvation and live with Him forever.  My mind cannot wrap itself around such enormous love, but I am so grateful for it.

I am going...to be helping my son with all the homework he got from his teachers for winter break.  I was not happy about that - it's vacation time for Pete's sake!

I am wearing...my pj's.  I'll get dressed shortly.

I am noticing...how well my kids get along, and it makes me very happy.

In the kitchen...I'll be making Mexican style chicken and vegetable soup.  It's a family favorite.

I am creating...a picture in my head of how I'll be putting the furniture once the tree comes down.  It's a habit of mine.  I'm always looking for new ways to decorate my home.  Even as a teenager I did it in my own bedroom.  I guess I haven't outgrown it.

I am reading...my devotions and nothing else.  Just haven't had time to sit and read.

I am hoping...our friends have a smooth trip to their new home in Sweden.

I am looking forward to...more birthday celebrations - my daughter turns 23 tomorrow, and my son turns 13 the same day.  They are 10 years apart.

I am hearing...the silence of a warm winter's morn.  All I hear is the clock ticking and the computer fan whirring.

Around the house...I'll have to pull out the vacuum cleaner again because Molly is shedding.  Again.  Honestly, I pick up so much dog hair it's a wonder she's not bald.

A favorite quote of the day..."Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world. The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life." - Corrie Ten Boom.

One of my favorite things...being with my kids on Christmas morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week...my kid's birthdays tomorrow.  We'll be going out to eat and possibly visiting friends.  Church on Sunday.  Not much else on the program.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today, December 11, 2012...

Outside my window...the bright sunshine is still there, though only for another hour or so.  By 5:30pm it's just about gone.

I am thinking...of my daughter, and the trials she faces everyday working in a children's home.

I am thankful for...a pantry filled with food, and a home filled with love.

I am going...to my son's school at 5pm to purchase uniform shirts.  He's grown so much this year I can hardly keep up.

I am wearing...a mint green top, green/brown/black geometric designed skirt, and black flip-flops.  It's a balmy 83 degrees out, with high humidity and dew points.  I miss last month's weather.

I am noticing...fewer homes decorated for Christmas this year.  However, the stores are more packed than usual.  I guess everyone's using their money for gifts, not decor.

In the kitchen...fried tilapia, plantains, rice medley (which my daughter said was really good), and a salad.  Oh, and broccoli.

I am creating...well, not yet, but I'll be creating some scrapbook pages for my son's scrapbook soon.

I am reading...very little lately.  I'm running around a lot.

I am hoping...the temps start to drop into the low 70s again.  It doesn't feel like Christmas when it's this humid out.

I am looking forward to...my birthday celebration on Thursday, and my actual birthday on Friday.

I am hearing...a video game my son is playing.  He plays to wind down after a hard day of learning ;).

Around the house...I was able to get some dusting and vacuuming done, plus one load of laundry.

A favorite quote of the day..."How many observe Christ's birthday! How few, His precepts!" - Benjamin Franklin.

One of my favorite things...saving money!  I saved a bunch this weekend when I went to Kohl's to buy my son new school pants.  It was great!

A few plans for the rest of the week...my birthday luncheon on Thursday, my actual birthday on Friday, and Friday night is our church's Christmas concert.  What a way to spend my birthday, listening to Christmas carols!  I love it!
